Release Notes
Version 1.3
Released 21-Jan-2026
- Beginning with this version, the Cut and Copy commands generate TEX code for the current selection and place
it on the clipboard (in addition to vector graphics formats). The feature coverage is not comprehensive, but Radical Pie does its best to faithfully reproduce equations that can
be written in basic LATEX code without requiring obscure packages.
There are many things that can be done very easily in Radical Pie that would require great effort to replicate in TEX, and those
things are generally left out. In particular, no attempt is made to generate code for drawing objects and annotations that have been added to a Radical Pie equation.
- The editor now recognizes a set of TEX commands that generate mathematical structures. These include things like
\frac for
fraction, \sqrt for radical, \sum for summation, and \int for integral. The complete list can be found in the TeX Symbols documentation.
- In MATH and CHEM modes, the Unicode character U+2015 (horizontal bar) now gets special handling and creates a fraction structure.
- It is now possible to change the properties of a phantom (by typing Ctrl-P) without releasing it and making a new one.
- The editor no longer allows a new phantom to be made if the current selection contains one already-existing phantom and nothing else.
- The spacing rules for the stack structure have been updated to properly account for different item spacing at the beginning and end of its main subgroup.
Version 1.2
Released 31-Dec-2025
- A new tortoise shell widemark type has been added to the wide marks palette.
- A new line tool that draws a tortoise shell bracket has been added to the drawing tools.
- Left and right tortoise shell brackets with Unicode values U+2997 and U+2998 are now stretchable.
- The Vertical extent design setting for bracket structures has been split into separate Upper vertical extent and Lower vertical extent settings.
- The Exterior space design setting for script structures has been split into separate Exterior space and Interior space settings.
- In MATH and CHEM modes, the Unicode characters U+23B4, U+23B5, U+23DC, U+23DD, U+23DE, U+23DF, U+23E0, and U+23E1 now get special
handling and create the corresponding widemark structures.
- Fixed a problem in which the Load Factory Defaults button in the Editor Configuration dialog would also reset the standard function list and the
special shortcuts. This button should only reset configuration options in the current dialog.
- Fixed a problem in which joist color (for bracket and brace drawing objects) was not being saved and restored properly.
Version 1.1.1
Released 1-Dec-2025
- Updated the spacing rules for nested integrals with inline limits to maintain enough space between the lower limit one the first integral and the bottom loop of the second integral.
- Fixed a problem in which saving as a copy would clear the dirty flag even though the original file may not be up to date.
Version 1.1
Released 19-Nov-2025
- Updated the spacing rules in MATH and CHEM modes so any leading space is eliminated when a symbol is preceded by general text ending with
space character, and any trailing space eliminated when a symbol is followed by general text beginning with space character.
- Added a tight layout option to the widemark structure. This can be accessed in the widemark properties, and it can be toggled on and off by using the Cycle Layout Variants
command in the Equation menu.
- Fixed a minor problem with the double underline widemark that would cause it not to report its full height.
- Middle-clicking and dragging the mouse now scrolls the viewport just as control-left-clicking and dragging does.
- Special shortcuts have been added that let the user define what characters are generated when Ctrl+G is followed by a number key. The Unicode values are defined in a new
Special Shortcuts dialog under the Settings menu.
- The Word macros that run when the user selects Update Design or Update Font Size now work on the selection only, and never apply to the whole document. This was done to
prevent accidental application to an entire document because Word tends to become unstable if changes are made to many equations in an extremely large document all at once.
Version 1.0.2
Released 3-Nov-2025
- Fixed a problem in which the bullet operator (U+2022) was not being classified as a binary operator by default.
- Fixed a problem that occurred when the double angle brackets structure was selected from the brackets palette that caused the left bracket to appear on both the left and right sides.
Version 1.0.1
Released 31-Oct-2025
- Fixed a problem that would cause the Obfuscate rectangular paths setting not to be loaded properly when equations embedded with OLE were created or opened.
- Added an ellipsis to the Make Phantom command in the Equation menu.
